UDL and Learning Styles reflection
When I completed the learning style survey, I didn’t learn anything new about my learning style. I already knew how I learned and what works best for me. The suggestions offer to improve my study skills are ones I’ve already looked into and never plan to use. I rather liked the Cast website, it was very interesting, and I like that it has the whole textbook online. I found some interesting information in the online textbook on the website. I like that it talked about the three different types of brain networks. Knowing that information, I can figure out which networks my students use the most in their learning and develop lesson plans that they will be able to understand. My reaction to the two activities was neutral. I’ve already done many learning surveys in my college career and already knew my style. As for the group project I was unhappy to discover we had one, as I hate group work. I work much better alone, but I was very fortunate to have a good job. I like the idea of using a textbook online, as it prevents students from having to buy another book, but I would rather the chapters be assigned as reading, then have each group summarize a chapter for the class.


Answers on Assistive Technology

  1. I have learned that there are many types of technology offered to assist disabled individuals. These products help give people who are disabled a better life, in the past before that a person with cerebral palsy would be unable to speak or simply do homework.
  2. I was impressed by the different products that are offered to help people. Such as the computer programs that let students who otherwise are unable to do school work. I want to remember this if I ever have to teach a disabled student in order to be able to help them learn better.
  3. Technology has the potential to provide a better life for students who had diverse learning needs. Some people who are unable to talk or even move properly are able to move around. To be able to speak, or simply turn on tv with the use of technology. As opposed to the past, when they were unable to do anything.
  4. In all of my times as a student, I’m not had to interact with anyone who uses a type of assistive technology besides a wheelchair. Most of the disabled students were kept in a separate of the school, where don’t interact with the rest of the students.
  5. As I prepare to become a teacher, I would like to carry that thought that ever though they are disabled learners. They are not different from any students. They just have special needs that need to be met, and it’s my job to try and meet those needs.


Virtual Field Trips
I found this to be really interesting, one thing that I remember as a kid was having a field trip I looked forwarded to being cancelled because of snow. These types of flied trips would never be cancelled and it would allow students a chance to see an exhibit for free. I found them very interesting, and it gives teachers a very valuable tool. Especially for a history teacher, what better way to relate a subject to a student than to show them and exhibit representing what they are learning. These are website students can even go home and look at over and over. All in all I think virtual field trips are really good and will become a big thing in the classroom.
